Believe... Want to Belong... Come and See...  RCIA Inquiry

Who can attend Inquiry?

Anyone who wants to learn more about God’s love and how it is expressed within the Catholic Church is invited to attend.

These sessions are particularly appropriate for:

  • Anyone who has never had a personal relationship with God or known about His love

  • Anyone who has been baptized but has not been active in a faith community

  • Anyone who is active in another faith community but who feels drawn to the Catholic faith

  • Anyone who wishes to develop a better understanding of the Catholic faith

  • Anyone who is engaged or married to a Catholic but is not Catholic themselves

  • Parents who are not Catholic but whose children are being raised Catholic

  • Adults who were baptized as Catholic but who have not yet received the Sacrament of Confirmation

  • Catholics who want to learn more about the Catholic faith

  • Friends and spouses of Inquirers

It is Inquiry Time...   Huh?

It is a time when we begin to identify individuals who have a desire to join the Church or to learn more about the Catholic faith. If you or someone you know might be interested, Inquiry Sessions are for you.

"Inquiry" in the Catholic Church is sometimes compared to the first stages of exploring a new friendship.

That is what Inquiry is about….getting to know one another. These sessions are all about asking questions. It is a time to ask questions, to tell some of your story and to listen to the stories of others; it is a time to meet others who may have hopes and histories similar to our own.

Inquiry gatherings are informal discussions centered around the questions and comments that arise within the group. There is no commitment if you come to any of these sessions. We will try to answer any questions you might have.

  • How do I become part of Inquiry?

Inquiry sessions are scheduled based on interest. Contact the parish office at 417-334-2928 or email for information on the next meeting time.

  • What should I do as part of Inquiry?

Bring your questions about the Christian faith and the Catholic Church and be willing to listen to what others have to say about their faith journey.

  • How long does Inquiry last?

Sessions are held every other week. There is no set ending time but sessions normally last about an hour. Sessions are scheduled throughout the year based on interest and continue as long as is appropriate for those who attend. Our hope is that you come to understand and appreciate the Catholic faith more fully.

Sometimes faith is likened to a journey where we don’t know the exact route. Inquiry is part of that journey and each individual journeys at his or her own pace. We trust that the Spirit will lead us and allow the journey to “take as long as it takes”.

  • What is the difference between Inquiry and RCIA?

Inquiry is the first step in RCIA which is the process for most adults who join the Catholic Church. However, Inquiry is also a way for anyone to learn more about the Catholic faith. Those who desire to become Catholic Christians will continue through the RCIA process and further spiritual formation within the Catholic faith. Others may feel the Spirit is not leading them to the Catholic Church at this time. Each individual is free to make the choice appropriate for themselves.

When Jesus first encountered potential disciples (John 1:38-39), he asked them “What do you want?” They in turn asked him where he lived, and Jesus’ response was, “Come and see”. That is what Inquiry is about: helping you discern what it is you are looking for -- “What do you want?” -- and then, “Come and see” if that need can be met here. We pray for God’s blessings, wherever your journey may lead.
