After a
period of Inquiry, Martha, Margo, Amanda, and
Dana decide to seek
acceptance into the Order of Catechumen of our
parish. They come before the parish community
and declare their wish to become members of the Catholic Church. Signing of the
Senses is part of the Rite marking their
acceptance into the Order of Catechumen.

Before the
Liturgy of the Eucharist begins, Catechumen and
Candidates are dismissed from Mass. They continue
their faith journey and formation by Breaking Open
the Word with Sponsors and RCIA Team Members and by
meeting for extended catechesis |

The Rite of
Sending includes the enrollment of names of those
seeking baptism at the coming Easter Vigil. In our
parish, we also enroll names of Christians who are
already baptized and who seek full communion with
the Catholic Church.
The parish
community sent Margo, Amanda, Martha, and Dana to
the Rite of Election with Bishop James Johnston. |
|
The
Rite of Election for our parish is celebrated at St.
Agnes Cathedral in Springfield. Catechumen and
Candidates from the western side of the diocese were presented
to the Bishop along with the parish's recommendation
that they receive the Sacraments of Initiation at
the Easter Vigil.
A total of four Rites of Election
are held each year in our diocese at the beginning of Lent--two in Springfield and two in Cape
Girardeau. |

Dow read from the
Book of the Elect the names of the Catechumen and
Candidates sent by Our Lady of the Lake Parish.

Following the
Rite of Election, RCIA enters the period of
Purification and Enlightenment. This phase
corresponds with Lent and leads up to the Sacraments
of Initiation at the Easter Vigil. These Sacraments
include Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Eucharist. |
