After a period of Inquiry and Catechumenate, several individuals received the Sacraments of Initiation or were received into full communion with the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil. One of the milestones along the faith journey of these Catechumen and Candidates is the Rite of Sending in which each of them signs their name into the Book of the Elect




		The Book of the Elect is placed on display in front of the altar during Lent.


	Following the Rite of Sending the Catechumen and Candidates are presented to Bishop James Johnston at the Rite of Election at St Agnes Cathedral in Springfield. There are a total of four Rites of Election in our diocese each year--two in Springfield and two in Cape Girardeau.
	After the Rite of Election, RCIA enters the period of Purification and Enlightenment. This phase corresponds with Lent and leads up to the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil. These Sacraments include Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Eucharist.
