Coffee & Christ”

The key goals of "Coffee & Christ" are to connect the Christian story to one's personal experiences and to actualize the Christian faith in one's culture and society. "Coffee & Christ" meets on Sunday morning at 9:15, between the two Sunday morning Masses. This is the same time as PSR, making it convenient for parents who bring their children to PSR.

You are challenged to attend at least two spiritual growth opportunities each quarter! Check the weekly bulletin and quarterly newsletter for current and upcoming topics and schedules. If there is a topic, subject, special interest, or questions you would like to see addressed at "Coffee & Christ", please let us know or join in the planning!  Check the Parish Calendar for upcoming topics.

Why Catholic?

"Why Catholic?" is a unique adult faith formation program that is solidly based on Sacred Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC). It offers a concrete approach to help adults deepen their Catholic faith and connect its teachings to their everyday lives. This deepening of the faith takes place in a prayerful small community setting, for example, in a family’s home, a room at church or some other place a group might choose to gather.

This year's "Why Catholic?" program presents the life of prayer. The year will examine the different aspects of prayer, especially the "Our Father". The Fall 2010 sessions explore the basics of prayer while the Spring 2011 sessions focus on the "Our Father".

New members may join at any time.

Anyone can benefit from "Why Catholic?" … Catholics who want to deepen their faith, parents who want to pass on their faith, people who have questions about the Catholic Church, parish organizations who want to reflect on their faith. In other words, it is perfect for you!

"Why Catholic?"  is offered twice a year for six weeks during Advent and six weeks during Lent. Groups meet at a variety of times and days of the week to fit your schedule. Spanish-language groups are available as well as English. Watch the bulletin for additional information and be sure to complete a "Why Catholic?" form to be included in each new session.

 Library Helper

We are blessed to have our own Parish Lending Library. While small, it includes a variety of Catholic and spiritual literature and has much to offer any parishioner interested in starting a habit of spiritual reading. Resources are categorized and clearly marked by topic to assist in locating the materials you need. Donations of additional materials are always welcome. Ministers are needed to open the library after each of the weekend Masses (you do not have to stay in the library) and to assist in cataloging new donations.

Catechists and Catechist Helpers

Catechists are among our greatest assets and we are especially grateful for those men and women who willingly give of themselves to serve as Catechists. They serve our parish children, youth, and adults as examples of people who are living their Catholic faith as followers of Christ. Catechists “teach as Jesus taught” through personal witness and their love of Christ and others. Catechists are involved with our Parish School of Religion (PSR) for children and youth (OLLY), Vacation Bible School, Children's Liturgy of the Word, RCIA, or as a facilitator in "Why Catholic?" groups and other adult formation sessions.  Catechists often find that they grow in their own faith when they serve others in this capacity.

Please prayerfully consider whether you may be called to minister as a catechist.

In compliance with the mandate of the USCCB and Diocesan requirements, all Catechists must meet the VIRTUS requirements. Catechists also participate in ongoing opportunities for personal faith development.

RCIA Team and RCIA Sponsors

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is a process of the heart and mind to learn about the teachings of Jesus Christ and how we celebrate these teachings in our Catholic faith. Anyone  who is interested in our Catholic faith is invited to attend.

Being a member of the RCIA Team is an ongoing one-year commitment and includes involvement in planning and facilitating RCIA sessions those interested in the Catholic faith. The main responsibility of an RCIA Sponsor is to accompany the RCIA Candidate and introduce them to the parish community and later to encourage active participation within the parish community. Participation is a wonderful way to enhance your own faith journey. There are no specific talents required to be a Team Member or Sponsor.
