OUR LADY of the LAKE GIFT SHOP
The Gift Shop is
located on the main level of the church on the left side of
the Gathering Space. It is open after all the Masses. If you
are looking for something special, we hope you will stop in
and take a look around. We are proud to offer rosaries,
bibles, crosses, medals, religious pendants, prayer books,
and many other church and religious articles. We also carry
Christian music CD's by our parishioners and music
ministers. If you don't find what you are looking for,
please ask!
Our Parish and
visitors are blessed to have a dedicated
Gift Shop Ministry
of parishioners who share
their time, talent and energy to staff the Gift Shop.
Proceeds from the Gift Shop go to the "Vision for the
Future" fund to retire our mortgage debt.
Posie Kroeger, the Quilters Historian, has given the following
History
of the Gift Shop
"The old church building for Our Lady of the Lake was built in 1972, with
worshipping area, additional room for activities (also used for overflow for
worshipping tourists on weekends, mostly fishing at that time) and also a
kitchen area with only cabinets built in. The ladies group of the parish
thought, “How do we raise funds to furnish this kitchen?” It happened several
of the ladies were avid quilters and had been quilting at Silver Dollar City
and also at the Christian Church.
So they came up with the idea that quilting
could be done at Our Lady of the Lake Church. It was decided that each Monday
would be quilting day. “Bring your lunch and join us.” The first quilt made
was the bow-tie pattern and a proud piece of work it was. Our Lady of the Lake
Quilters were famous for their fine quilting.

A small tribute to those wonderful women who started the gift shop!
There were other ladies that
didn’t quilt but had other talents: knitting, crocheting, sewing and making
other crafts. There needed to be a place to sell these wares, so a gift shop
was opened. Religious goods were added at a later date. They earned enough
money to furnish the kitchen -- silverware, dishes, pots and pans, warming
tables, chairs, tables -- so they could have their own place to have their
Spaghetti Dinner. The Quilters group only grew bigger as time passed. At one
time there were 20-25 ladies coming to quilt or do their own thing. There were
also several men who made articles who brought their wares for the ladies to
sell in the gift shop. It had become a very flourishing business. God
needs many more workers in his Vineyard. The pay is great. Early or Late the
wages are the same “Your Reward in Heaven” and all of God’s blessing."
Anyone interested in joining this wonderful group of women to share your
time and talents should contact Joan Donovan through the parish office,
334-2928.
Fund raising and community activities play a significant part in our history
as a parish. Other parish activities over the years have included dances and
picnics; various holiday celebrations from Christmas and New Years to the 4th
of July.
