Catholic Christian Newman Association
at C of O

The Newman Club was started in 1974 by several C of O students with the help of Father Raymond Orf who was pastor of the Branson Parish at that time. According to an article in the 1975 SOTO college publication, Catholic students on campus realized the need for a "Catholic Club" to provide a sense of unity and fellowship among Catholic students. A secondary goal was to promote understanding and to lessen the differences between Catholic and non-Catholic students at the college. The Constitution was approved during the '74-'75 academic year.

Since that time, the Catholic Christian Newman Association, as it is now called, has provided a spiritual "home away from home" for the Catholic students at the college. "That's what we are celebrating," stated graduating member Eric Stoverink, "for 25 years this organization has supported Catholic students, and it is still going strong!"

The small, but very active CCNA group works hard at spiritual development, community service projects such as Adopt-a-Hwy, visiting area nursing homes, and supporting Living Alternative Pregnancy Services in Branson. Outreach to other students is a given with the group. Each spring, the focus shifts to leadership development, which helps to insure that the CCNA tradition of "faith, fun and friendship" lives on!
